She was born in New Mexico, grew up in St. Louis, MO and lived in upstate New York until she returned home to NM with her daughters in the early 1990’s.
Lerma has been a papermaker for the past 30 years. Her making interests are often informed by cultural and gender issues – particularly as they relate to motherhood. She has degrees in English and Women’s Studies from the University of New York Albany and received her teaching certification in piano pedagogue from L’Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris, France. Her works are in numerous public and private collections and have been shown in universities, museums, and galleries in the United States, China, and South Korea.
